This piece was made during the summer of 2026 on the Ross of Mull. During her stay, Connie completed a series of plein air sketches, often beginning with these small, loose pieces as a way of capturing a fleeting moment in the landscape.
Softly was inspired by looking out to sea in the pinky dusk, when the horizon, water and land seem to dance softly between one another. The changing light and gentle movement of the landscape are held in loose, expressive marks, capturing not so much a particular view, but the quiet feeling of being there.
