Another reluctant spin reveal, because apparently the algorithm enjoys a reel, a face, and a dramatic turn.

This painting came together in the midst of winter hill walks — moving through undulating slopes, following the pull of water as it carved its own path through the landscape. "Cascade" grew from that sense of movement: of being guided, carried, and gathered by the land itself.

Submerging myself in the cold, becoming part of the landscape’s temperature, heightens every sense. In that immersion, the rhythm and undulations of the land begin to echo a steadying heartbeat.

The green in this piece speaks of spring’s vibrancy — new life pushing through — which felt especially fitting to share here in the fullness of May.

Up in the hills, I’m always grounded by my own smallness. The overwhelm of modern life seems to cascade away, like water running from the slopes. Submerging myself in the cold, becoming part of the landscape’s temperature, heightens every sense. In that immersion, the rhythm and undulations of the land begin to echo a steadying heartbeat.

Spring time 🌱, that's all. Just birdsong and beautiful new life

For the @g20collective_artists Tenement Streets exhibition, I’ve created four small paintings on panel—an intimate shift from my initial response to Part 1, where I worked on large-scale mixed media drawings. These works follow the drawings that became so crucial in shaping my thinking.

Alongside them, I’ve included an early poem that informed the paintings—reflecting on the River Kelvin, where red sandstone and dense foliage of the G20 area meet in the water’s surface.

I found myself drawn to how these tenements layer our reality: a shared experience of belonging, of vertical living—both fixed in place and quietly mirrored in the river below.

As an artist whose practice often centres on water and places to swim, I feel incredibly lucky to have two bodies of water nearby, weaving through the urban life I’ve chosen.

I’ve been thinking about the roots we lay down here. In a city shaped by constant movement and change, we are bound together—nothing ever truly still. Everything ebbs and flows, and in that motion, new life emerges.

For the @g20collective_artists Tenement Streets exhibition, I’ve created four small paintings on panel—an intimate shift from my initial response to Part 1, where I worked on large-scale mixed media drawings. These works follow the drawings that became so crucial in shaping my thinking.

A very special commission 🤍

This stretch of coast feels so different to the beaches I know in Scotland — the soft yellows of sand and stone against that endless blue sky, dreamy and a little deceptive in how easily it can slip into something too generic and sweet. I wanted to hold onto the feeling without losing its edge.

This piece was made as a birthday gift for my mother-in-law, and choosing the view took me straight back to August 2020 — that brief window when the world opened just enough for us to find each other again. We set off at 7am with the kayak, croissants, and buckets and spades, chasing the cool before the heat and crowds arrived.

My girls — just 1 and 7 then — built sprawling forts in the sand while I drifted in the water, looking back at the pines on the cliff, seeing the land from a distance. Later, going through old photos, I found one from the kayak — my youngest tucked under the cliffs with her grandmother, pastries in hand.

There it was, the perfect memory. The feeling, the place, the reason.

I don’t often enjoy commissions, but this one felt different — it came from somewhere personal, and it flowed like it had been waiting to arrive.

First time seeing my parents since Christmas—and with their puppy in tow 🐶
Misty hills, a quick swim (despite the swans standing guard), and that kind of fog that makes everything feel a little more magical.

I think it’s my mum’s love of swimming that’s always drawn me to the water—just like my granny before her. Something that feels deeply ingrained, both in how we were raised and maybe somewhere in our bones too 🤍

A joyful detour to see our long-lost Glasgow loves in Malmö, Sweden ❤️ and a pilgrimage up the coast to Louisiana Gallery — pure inspiration.

My cup is full. My wallet is… not 😂
But I’m coming home brimming with ideas, salty hair, and so much joy.

A narrow ribbon of water cuts through the hills, slowing, turning, finding its own way. This work grew from following those high upland paths — where streams guide you forward and time stretches out. As adults we don’t spend enough time exploring, or playing. This feels like a quiet treasure hunt: not for gold, but for the perfect wild swim, hidden and waiting.

Freshwater reeds tickle from below, forming a rich micro-climate for creatures unknown — Jeremy Fisher himself would feel at home here. Rain droplets merge with the surface, tugging at its elastic horizon. Foliage slips into the silken sky, dissolving boundaries between water, life, and air.

Looking back to understand how to move forward.
This painting, made in spring 2024, marked a turning point in my practice. During a February stay at Loch Long, I swam in the tidal pool five times over three days, at different times of day, becoming absorbed in its shifting essence.

Vivid green-blue water set against fiery russet bracken. A frog’s-eye viewpoint that heightened my awareness of the space between above and below, known and unknown. Light flickering across ripples as tides swell and recede.

The landscape reveals itself as a moving entity throughout the day, not just across seasons. This work taught me that it isn’t always necessary to seek new places—each place transforms depending on when and how you return to it.
